Modifying a Tax Authority

Open the Tax Authority window by going to the Accounting menu and selecting Tax Admin -> Tax Authority.

Search for the GST Tax Authority

Enter GST into the Tax Authority field and Press Search.

Double click on the GST Tax Authority.


Tax Authority - Edit
























Change the Tax Rate field with the decimal percentage for the new tax rate, 5.0 as of January 1, 2008, and Press Update.

Any changes to the tax rate will come into effect immediately.  All invoices and payables created in the past will continue to use the old tax rate.

Follow the same method to change the HST to 13.0%.

Server

Check that foundation is running on the server machine by connecting locally


Workstation


Check version of Java

Run javaws  and go to About -> Help.  The version should be at least Java 1.5.0_05.  If it is not install the correct java version from User Setup for Accessing Business Suite.

 

Turn on the Java Console 

Run javaws and go to Edit -> Preferences and select the Advanced tab.  Expand the Java Control tree and select the Show Control radio button.

This will now start the Java Console when the Application is run.

First ensure that you can connect to the server where Business Suite is installed.

  1. Open a web browser
  2. Go to the Business Suite URL http://<servername>/<application name>/

This will display the Business Suite home page which usually includes a link to the application and user documentation.


Installing Java 1.5


Verify Version

Check to see if you have Java 1.5 (update 5 or greater) installed on the workstation.

On Windows go to Start -> Run and enter javaws.

On Linux open a Terminal screen and enter javaws.

Check the version, click on Help -> About

Make sure the version if 1.5.0 and that the build (number after the _) is 05 or greater.

Installing Java 1.5


To install Java Run Time Engine (JRE) 1.5 go to http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp and follow the installation instructions.


When you are done, repeat the Verify Version section to make sure it is installed correctly.


Running Business Suite


Now return to the Business Suite home page with a web browser and click on the link to the application.  This will download the application and start it up.  Login with the username and password provided by your administrator.
